More than simple watch - Ultimate Gadget

Just think how many things we should take with us everyday - cell phone, watch, mp3-player and etc. Moreover we should always keep in mind what exactly we want to take and even when everything is with us there is a need to be careful not to lose something. Because of this all companies, which produce different devices, try to make “all-in-one” gadgets. As a consequence all modern devices, especially cell phones, are supplied with clock, organizer, mp3-player and so on.

Think Geek Company, trying to combine as many functions as it possible in a single device, designed video-watch with OLED display. Thus, this gadget is able to show time, photos, videos and even eBooks. So instead of “boring” time you can listen to music for example. Built-in microphone allows you to record whatever you want.

Actually this watch has a lot of characteristics that are mentioned below:

  • Memory: built-in, 2Gb
  • Display’s resolution: 128×128 pixels
  • Mp3-player
  • Slide-show mode
  • Built-in microphone
  • 3D sound
  • Rechargeable battery - via USB
  • Dimensions: 4×3,8×1,2cm
  • Wristlet’s length - 22cm
  • As a unit: headphones, CD with a driver for PC, service instruction and USB cable

So, this gadget features quite a significant number of functions that make it enough competitive among modern hi-end devices. Yet, in my opinion it’s better to buy a smartphone, which for sure has more functions and bigger display. But, in case data is true and the price is just about $ 100, demand for this watch will be quite big.

New bill may lead to an unlocked iPhone

We’ve reported on how French law forced Orange and Apple to offer an unlocked iPhone. I may have even commented that though the unlocked iPhone was expensive it would be nice for Americans to at least have the choice of purchasing an unlocked iPhone. Well, it seems there are other people who share my opinion in Congress.

According to the CNET News Blog, Anne Broache is reporting that there is a democratic bill in the House of Representatives that would legally force AT&T and Apple to offer an unlocked iphone. Now, the law wouldn’t specifically address AT&T or the iPhone. Basically, it would force all carriers to offer a subsidy-free version of handsets and equipment. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass). The bill is called the Wireless Consumer Protection and Community Broadband Empowerment Act.

Rep. Markey is not out on a limb by himself. There is a Senate bill, not as sweeping, that is being researched in committee. That being said, it seems that the idea has a chance of becoming law. Of course, you can bet that wireless carriers will fight tooth and nail not to let that happen. They like the exclusivity deals they have with handset manufacturers, and they only want their subscribers to have access to those handsets.

Asus Triton 79 Cooling Fan

Asus has a new cooling fan in town, the Triton 79. This is definitely one of the more stylish fans I have ever laid my eyes on, supporting both Intel Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Quad Quad-Core and AMD Athlon 64 FX/X2 Dual Core processors, making it ideal for hardware enthusiasts and hardcore gamers. Features include a nickel-plating copper base, a quartet of copper heat pipes, aluminum fins and PWM function. Despite having a 12cm fan, it operates at a relatively low 18dBA which ought not be a problem for most people. Each purchase comes in a deluxe limited edition package that has an ultra-exclusive identification card typed with a limited-edition serial number.

Zero Punctuation’s Yahtzee reviews Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

He’s skewered videogame after videogame with his razor-sharp British-turned-Australian wit, done an interview with Geek.com, and gone to the GDC and come back. Now, Yahtzee, our favorite critic, takes on Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

Unlike many other reviewers who heaped praise on this game, Geek.com was disappointed:

It has so much promise: amazing graphics, great character development, and spot-on action-platforming. If it sticks to this formula, then it’s easily in contention for Game of the Year honors. Unfortunately, it’s woeful as a shooter.

Well, a negative review is one thing; but then Yahtzee takes it up a notch. He finds fault with just about everything in the game, including a race element that didn’t hit me over the head the same way. I think pretty much everyone noticed that the game had elements of Tomb Raider and “Indiana Jones,” but no one could put it like Yahtzee. Each week is a treat!

3G iPhone rumored to be Infineon-powered, hitting “mid-year”

Hold the presses: Apple may be releasing a new iPhone this year… with 3G! Crazy, we know. The latest iteration of this rumor comes to us courtesy of UBS analysts, who say Infineon will likely be building chips for the phone — they’re powering the current iphone, so no real surprise there. UBS is also betting on a mid-year 3G iPhone launch, and thinks that EDGE production will ramp down early so Apple gets a chance to clean out inventories. We’ve got a good feeling about this one, guys.

Steampunk Mouse, Furnace Included

Steampunk: Brass and wood machines modeled on an imaginary Victorian aesthetic. But for Steampunk to be real steampunk, you need some heat. That’s just what hacker Unklian has done with his Steampunk Furnace Mouse. This two-button controller with scroll wheel incorporates a fake coal fired furnace, although in reality it still runs on USB power.

The coals are broken glass, rolled in and glued with black silicone sealant. The fire is provided by LEDs under plastic sheeting and the body is, of course, hand made from wood and brass off-cuts. This is the second version. MkI was a little too hacked together and the unmeasured parts made for an ergonomically-challenged ergonomic experience.

Sprint retail locations to close for 2-hour webcast

Sprint is planning on closing all of their stores, to include licensed dealer locations from 9am to 11am PST today. During this time all partners, owners and employees will watch a webcast. While this is most likely just some employee training, we can always hope for something good, possibly some news of the rumored $60 unlimited calling plan?

Lets just hope the closing of the Sprint stores offers us geeks a little more exciting news than the Starbucks closing. All things considered better coffee is a good thing, but we were hoping to hear something a little more tech friendly.

Senseo Base HD7810 Coffee-maker for one

I have to admit that I am not a coffee drinker, but I know that many of my readers probably can’t live without it. Maybe you are the type who drinks the whole pot made by your coffee maker, but right now, I would like to speak to those who only just need one in the morning

That’s right, for all you single people who awake in the morning with only a mild need for caffeine, there is finally a product for you. Senseo, in cooperation with Philips, has created a series of coffee makers, and I got a chance to try out the Senseo Base HD7810.

The HD7810 had a very easy setup, and all that it required from the user is to fill the metal, dishwasher safe canister and add a coffee-making pod. The pods are these pre-packaged coffee-ground and filter combinations that resemble circular teabags, and they come in many flavors. Adding one more pod to the Senseo Base will increase your coffee strength to Strong, if that is what you need.

A user then pushes the button for a four to eight ounce cup, and soon the hot brew of life pours out, leaving a lovely layer of foam on the top. Cleanup is simple as the user just removes the used pod without sweeping up wet coffee grounds, and the Base even has an auto shut-off.

In other words, it is the perfect device to give you exactly what you need. You can purchase the Senseo Base HD7810 on the Senseo site for about $69.99.
