Han Solo preserved in a carbonite desk

I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I can remember. Granted, I wasn’t even born until a year after Return of the Jedi hit theaters, but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the films. This desk has to be one of the coolest custom desks I’ve ever seen, as it features Han Solo frozen in carbonite.

The desk actually looks like it would be almost too tall to be used comfortably, but it would be seriously difficult to complain about a desk this cool. It looks about as authentic as you’re going to find, complete with the control panels situated at the front of the desk.

This is unfortunately a one-of-a-kind piece that was designed specifically for someone. I’m not sure what it would take to bribe the designer into crafting another one, but I’m sure it would be well worth it if you could.

Asus’ Eee PC gets torture tested on video

For those that had no qualms kicking Teddy to the curb and cuddling with Asus’ Eee PC throughout the night just as soon as it was released, you may want to utilize your scroll wheel right about now. For those with a tough stomach and a perverse appetite for destruction, you can most definitely stay put. In the video posted after the jump, the Eee PC is pushed from great heights onto solid floors, forced to sit in extreme temperatures and repeatedly prodded to see if it still functioned. Interested? You’re just one click away from a clip sure to make gadget aficionados everywhere cringe.

What can really say about this? It’s simply the most delicious looking 8-bit console we’ve ever laid eyes on. Now, if someone could just whip up an Xbox 360 hot-fudge sundae or Genesis-brûlée. Hey — maybe for our next birthday?

A kayak you can stand in

You can’t normally fish and kayak at the same time (unless you enjoy getting wet), however that could change with the new fisherman’s kayak.

This is the only kayak available that uses a patented extendable outrigger system to stabilize the craft, enabling outdoor enthusiasts to fish from a standing position. Made of durable polyethylene with stainless steel and aluminum hardware, the kayak has two independent outriggers that pivot outward 45 to its centerline, yet both swing back into position to form the aft section of the craft to allow for smooth paddling.

The fisherman’s kayak costs $1,899.95 and is available at Hammacher.

New camera tech can detect blood and water content in your car. Ew.

Ever on the lookout for the next step in up in Big Brother policy, there’s a new camera technology being developed in the UK at Loughborough University which can count car occupants by figuring out how much water and blood content there is inside the car. The obvious application is for trimming down those carpool lane offenders, trying to squeeze by the law with a dummy or a pet in the passenger seat. Look, privacy concerns aside, there’s just something awkward about traffic cams tracking quantities of blood and water inside of commuter cars. Do we really want to let the Machines have that kind of inside (literally) information on us?
