Hokey Spokes For The Trendy

Just in case you’re worried that nobody can spot you at night while cycling the Hokey Spokes will definitely dispel all doubts despite making you look a tad out of place. These transparent blades are connected to the wheels of your bicycle, and as you cycle around in it, the integrated computer located inside one of the blades will automatically generate different LED lights and images to show off to the world just how hip you are. Heck, you can even program a custom text for all and sundry to see. Hokey Spokes will retail for $29.95 a pop, and each wheel can accommodate up to half a dozen blades.

Video: Amazing Oscilloscope Hack

For those of you who remember the Amiga demo scene back in the 1990’s, this video will be a spectacular nostalgia trip. Back then, hard-coded graphics and music pushed the hardware to do extraordinary things, and were distributed on floppy disc (or by BBS). Below you’ll see an oscilloscope hack from Assembly 2007, complete with the required techno soundtrack.

Waxy has a whole video gallery dedicated to more of these.

Sprint to offer the PHS300, a pocketable 3G wireless router

The latest rumor is with Sprint who will start offering the Cradlepoint PHS300 as of March 1, 2008. The PHS300 is a personal and portable hot spot that allows you to create a Wi-Fi hot spot and share the access from your 3G modem or 3G phone.

The PHS300 is currently available as a stand-alone device from Cradlepoint and retails for $179. Hopefully Sprint will see this as a great addition to have with 3G modems and start to bundle it in.

Palm Customers Are The Least Satisfied of All

According to a customer survey conducted by Changewave, Palm ranks lowest on the customer satisfaction scale. In the category “Very Satisfied”, Palm only hit 30%. Apple was top at 72%.

What this story really shows, though, is the unreliability of surveys and statistics. Palm’s Paul Loeffler responded to the survey by citing two others in which Palm comes much higher. But who were these surveys commisioned by? That’s right. Palm. Much like Apple’s own pie-chart massaging, statistics can be sliced to show anything you like.

Archos To Go 3G With PMPs

Archos looks set to be the first over the finish line with its new line of portable media players that will feature 3G connectivity, allowing it to virtually connect to the Internet no matter where you are - as long as there is an appropriate signal from a cell tower. The Opera web browser will provide all your browsing experience needs. This new range of players is tipped to be released before the end of 2008, with the 606 WiFi and 706 WiFi being among them.

Buffalo BD Recorder

Buffalo has also thrown its weight behind the Blu-ray camp by releasing a new range of internal and external Blu-ray recorders that feature a 4x recording speed. There is no fixed price on these recorders as at press time, although the internal SATA version ought to be in the 310 Euros neighborhood while the external USB 2.0 model should be a wee bit more expensive at 340 Euros.

Nokia launches user created “Yamake” games on N-Gage — bye bye Gizmondo v2

Posted Feb 14th 2008 3:46AM by Thomas Ricker
Filed under: cellphones, GamingSorry Gizmondo, your dreams of a resurrected user generated gaming platform were just usurped by Nokia. Straight outta Espoo comes Nokia’s Yamake (a mashup for “you make the game”) for their N-Gage platform. With it, Nokia says players can “create their own games” from a range of “mini games” by adding user generated text, pictures, sound clips and movies. Games can then be shared via the N-Gage Arena and via MMS between N-Gage compatible S60 devices. The press release specifically mentions the creation of mini games “such as” pictures puzzles and quizzes — so no, we’re not looking at user generated, 3D first person shooters upon initial release. In fact, without any images or video to accompany the press release, Yamake sounds more like a user customization platform than game creation platform. Still, we’ll cut them some slack on this initial release. One thing seems pretty clear though, this ain’t your mama’s sidetalkin’ N-Gage; Nokia is playing for keeps this time around.

SmartGuide Concept

The SmartGuide power drill concept is definitely something worth thinking about, especially for folks who can’t seem to use a power drill properly while spoiling the entire surface. It utilizes a couple of interset rings which collapse in on each other to keep your drill bit straight without straying away. I wonder when will someone make a Smart Hammer that knows how to hit a nail on its head truly and accurately without injuring any thumbs in the process.

Lightning Reaction Electric Shock Game

Lightning Reaction Electric Shock Game

A superb party game, which brings a mixture of fear, fun and hilarity in equal measure. Up to four people can play; each taking hold of a handle. The 6″ (15cm) device is activated by pushing the central button, which glows red as a ghostly wail is emitted. After a few seconds (the time lapse varies) the sound abruptly stops, the light turns green and the players must each press the button on their handle. The player who is slowest to respond receives an electric shock. The suspense is almost as bad as the shock itself! Requires 3 x ‘AAA’ batteries (included).
