Sony Ericsson S500i Review - CNET Australia

CNET Australia reviews the Sony Ericsson S500i and writes, “As with most new Sony Ericsson handsets the S500i gives you access to the Sony Ericsson “Picture Blogging” service, and content downloads from the PlayNow net portal; although, when we logged on to the portal we struggled to find any content worth the time or money involved in downloading. Photos taken with the camera can be manipulated with a small set of image filters and then printed directly via the supplied USB cable.”

If you run an ecommerce business, privacy must be one of main concern for you. You should permanently search how to improve your web site’s performance and conversion rates. Are so many tools on the Internet tried to help you but many of them are so expensive. GuardedSite is one of affordable way to ensure ecommerce privacy and best of all it is available in a free 90 day trial program (no credit card needed and no contract).

On the GuardedSite is a graphic which show how much GuardedSiteSM helps to Increase conversion rates for a professional services company that added the GuardedSiteSM seal to one of their web pages during a two month trial.

All sound good for me but how does GuardedSiteSM work? It is quite simple: after you submit a form, ProtectedShop.com will perform an automated security scan of submitted web site. GuardedSiteSM will look for known vulnerabilities. After that, the submitted web site will be tested at random intervals to ensure it remains secure and protected.

As long as submitted web site is secure, the GuardedSiteSM security seal it place on the submitted web site will link to a page clearly identifying the submitted web site as secure and protected. If any vulnerability is found by GuardedSiteSM, the owner of the submitted web site will be notified before any changes to the security seal take place in order to allow the webmaster to fix the security issues.

Dell teases like a girl with XPS 630 gaming desktop

Check that evil scowl will you. You’re looking into the menacing red grill of Dell’s newest gaming desktop the XPS 630. Dell’s site modestly teases, “Here comes a new challenger.” Challenger eh, not leader? Come on Dell, you’re not going to generate any gaming hype with such tepidity. Drop in some NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GX2 graphics and say it loud, boy. Just not too loud, you don’t want to step on the toes of your Alienware subsidiary.

Hisgadgetoric: The Curta mechanical calculator peppers our eyes with nostalgia

Look, we know that the Curta Calculator is old. 1948 old in fact, when it was first conceived by Curt Herzstark while imprisoned in the Buchenwald concentration camp. Still, why not introduce the post HP35 generation to what was widely hailed as the best portable calculator of its time? Besides, with that WWII intrigue and satisfying mechanical grind, what’s not to love? See it in action after the break.

Nokia rolls out N-Gage First Access to N81 users

The delayed, revamped N-Gage client still isn’t ready for prime time, but the First Access preview service — which is just a little bit more functional than the preview shipping on some Nseries devices already — has finally launched. The service introduces a full suite of social gaming tools (though with compatibility officially limited to N81s, that’s a very small social circle indeed) and lets users download several game demos; Nokia promises that the service will evolve and expand as it ramps up for a full-scale release, so don’t get too down on the lack of content and community just yet. Oh, and just a word of warning, downloaders: your data will get reset prior to the full-scale launch, so don’t get too attached to your high scores, k?

iPhone Sold In Barcelona Orange Store

Looks like the iPhone is already on sale at an Orange store in Barcelona, retailing for €499 along with a contract with Orange. This is rather weird news since Movistar has already been confirmed to be the official distributor of the iPhone in Spain. Well, I guess for our readers in Spain (Barcelona in particular), if you really can’t wait for the iPhone to arrive officially, why not head down to this local cell phone store and have a look?

Exclusive Camera Phone Test: Day Four, The Motorola RAZR2 V8

Motorola have had a good run with the RAZR brand, and the V8 is the next offering in super slim design handsets. There are some good improvements over the original RAZR, and the overall opinion of this RAZR2 is positive. There is still room for improvement though.

The Motorola RAZR V8 feels solid, and well built. The casing of the handset has a quality feel to it and is finished in an appealing design. The hinge works well and doesn’t feel as if it will easily snap. I have seen Motorola reps throw handsets on the floor to demonstrate how sturdy they are, I’m sure the Razr2 will have been subjected to a similar testing before release. The handset feels slightly wide in the hand, and when opened it is just big. The new RAZR may be slim, but it is long, extremely so when open.

Living with it

The RAZR V8 is a quad band GSM phone with EDGE for fast data transfer. The phone supports Bluetooth 2.0, which allows for listening to music wirelessly with a compatible Bluetooth headset. The Motorola V8 has no memory card slot, so you are stuck with the onboard memory. The handset I reviewed had an on board capacity of 420MB, which is good, but with most handsets coming with memory card options allowing 2, 4 or even up to 8GB capacity, less than half a gigabyte is not really good enough. The built in MP3 player on the v8 is pretty good. Playback from the built in speakers is fairly loud, and the outside screen on the phone offers music controls when the handset is closed. The controls are touch screen operative, and whilst it is a good gimmick, reaction to a selection is very slow.

The camera on the handset is 2.0 megapixel. There are no overall outstanding features or comments to make about the camera, it really is a simple ‘point n shoot’ camera. Despite this, the quality of the pictures was surprisingly good.

Conclusion

Overall the Motorola RAZR2 V8 is a nice handset. It has a sturdy build and some useful extra applications. The MP3 player is nice, the camera is nice, and the Opera web browser is very good. In total the V2 doesn’t quite make the grade, but in general Motorola RAZR fans will not be disappointed.

Sony Ericsson Alona Image Leak

Looks like Sony Ericsson is rather lax about their security when it comes to new phones - this leaked image of the Alona is not the first, and it definitely won’t be the last. Looks pretty glossy to me despite taking on the customary blurred image. Guess this fingerprint magnet is all ready to roll out soon - now we just have to wait for the FCC’s approval before busting our wallets open.

AS-101 Mobile Digital TV Receiver

The new AS-101 Mobile Digital TV single chip receiver comes in a tiny footprint that measures a mere 5mm x 5mm and will be demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress later this month. Touted to be the smallest digital mobile TV receiver for DVB-H/T applications in the world, it comes with a multi-band RF tuner, an advanced OFDM demodulator, memory and interfaces all packed onto a single 90nm CMOS die. Guess the AS-101 will herald a slew of new gadget releases that will come in ever smaller form factors which allows you to view digital TV, but shrinkage of the device size must stop at some point as nobody likes viewing movies and soaps on too small a screen.
